Johan Cruyff's name ready on future stadium

The first piece of the Espai Barça is almost complete at the Ciutat Esportiva - and by May will be ready to start hosting games from the start of next season

The name of Johan Cruyff, the legendary Dutchamn who made history both as a Barça player and manager, is now shining at the stadium that’s in the process of being completed at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. The letters have been positioned on the upper section of the main covered grandstand and also on the roofs behind the two goals. The stadium is almost ready, and the final work is being done to schedule this April and May in preparation for use next season by the Barça B and Barça Women’s teams, plus the U19s for their Youth League games. The ground is named after Johan Cruyff in tribute to one of the people who did the most for the club’s youth system and the creation of the unique FC Barcelona style of play.

The seats are now being fitted in the 360º lower tier, with the capacity for 5,000 spectators, and the remaining 1,000 seats in the upper grandstand will be placed over the next few weeks. The seating model is identical to that at the Wanda Metropolitano, an innovative, ergonomic design that whether being used or not will generate an impressive aesthetic in the terraces thanks to the use of blue in combination with the red of the building. The 'more than a club' motto will also feature in the form of yellow seating along the sides of the pitch.

The turf is due to be laid midway through the month, and the video scoreboards are also moving into place, one behind each goal, made by a German company with extensive experience of top level football stadia. The floodlights will be positioned in late April, using a brand new LED technology in the sports world, which meet the increasing demands for TV broadcasting while also respecting the sustainability of the structure thanks to their low consumption and immediate response, which means there is no need for warm-up periods.

The May schedule includes equipping of the dressing rooms, benches, commentary boxes and the 140 metre dynamic facade.

The construction work is expected to be complete in late April, and the urbanisation work around the stadium in late May. Once finished, the Johan Cruyff Stadium will undergo tests over the summer so that it is ready to welcome the teams for official competition next season.
