Sustainability: Campus Barça

  1. Renewable energy: Besides the photovoltaic panels installed on the Camp Nou and the Palau Blaugrana, additional panels will be installed on the roofs of the new buildings.

  2. Protecting urban biodiversity: The Barça Campus is the home of some protected species such as the ballester. These existing protected species will be carefully relocated.

  3. Better outdoor comfort: The Campus around the Camp Nou will become a comfortable space providing a pleasant microclimate. The pavement will minimize the absorption of the heat of the sun.

  4. Urban integration: The architectural barriers between the Barça Campus and the city will be removed and the perimeter fence will be eliminated. This will result in an additional 4 hectares of new public meeting space.

  5. More walking and cycling options: The streets around the Barça Campus will have larger sidewalks. New pedestrian areas will be added on the Rambla above the Masia and near the new metro station L9 at Gregorio Marañón Avenue.

  6. More green spaces: The number of trees will increase from the current 599 trees to a total of 759 trees, an increase of more than 25%. To reduce the water footprint, more than 60% will be comprised of Mediterranean shrubs and flower mixtures.

  7. Better flood management: To be better prepared for future extreme weather conditions, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS), will be incorporated in the streets around the Campus.

  8. Improved energy efficiency: To minimize the energy consumed by the public lighting, LED lights will be installed. Photovoltaic panels with a total capacity of 4.1kW will be installed on Menéndez y Pelayo Street, which will generate enough electricity to power the streetlight itself throughout the year.

  9. Responsible material use: All wood material used for benches will be FSC® and PEFC Certified, making sure the wood is harvested from sustainably managed forests. The existing pavement will be recovered for the new pavement.

  10. Better public transport: Besides the new Camp Nou stop of the L9 metro line, 8 new bus stops will be added. A dedicated parking for 50 coaches attached to the New Palau Blaugrana and 30 coaches at Maternitat will also contribute to a reduction of traffic disturbance during games.
