Laporta: 'The members have projected the club's future'

President responds positively to the high turnout and recognises that from now the club will work hard to find the best way to fund Espai Barça

FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta spoke on Sunday evening in response to the result of the first online referendum in FC Barcelona history: “The club members have voted massively in favour of the project to finance the Espai Barça and thus ratify the decision of the delegate members at the last General Assembly.”

Laporta also appraised the fact that “the members have today strengthened more the ever the sense of why we are more than a club … This was yet another demonstration of our democratic vocation, the strength of our governance model, our innovative spirit and our global and integrative outlook.”

He continued that “this has been a major success for Barça support. We are very proud of our uniqueness. Once again a key decision for Barça has been put in the hands of its members, the sole owners of the club. My gratitude to all of the club’s departments and especially to the Consultation Board for their effort and commitment.”

Historic referendum

The president also wished to point out that “this was the first time in club history that the members have voted online in a referendum … We are very pleased because we have been pioneers in the use of electronic coting among major sports clubs in Europe.”

Laporta finished by saying that “Barça is more alive today than ever. We are more universal because we have never before allowed all of our members around the world to vote in a referendum. We are grateful for such democracy because today’s members have projected the club’s future.”

“It is now our responsibility starting tomorrow to get down to work on finding the best way to finance the Espai Barça efficiently and with the utmost transparency.”
